Dandy of the Day: William Shatner

“I was built for the long run, not for the short dash, I guess.” – William Shatner

William Shatner has been acting for half a century. Shatner is best known for playing William T. Kirk on Star Trek. Recently he won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his portrayal of the wonderfully eccentric Denny Crane on Boston Legal.

Shatner is one of those rare actors who is able to maintain his artistic credibility while poking fun at himself and giving campy comedic performances.

“We were basically one and the same, although Jim [Kirk] was just about perfect, and, of course, I am perfect.” – William Shatner

Givenchy Gentleman would suit William Shatner quite well. Gentleman is uber-masculine and potent with a pronounced citrusy-patchouli aroma. Givenchy Gentleman is a ‘square-jawed’ stylish and handsome man.

Shatner is also considered a musician. He began his musical career with the ‘spoken word’1968 album The Transformed Man. Shatner delivered an exaggerated, interpretive recitations of "Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” which became instant camp classics. In 1978, Shatner performed a reading of the Elton John song “Rocket Man during the Science Fiction Film Awards. Dressed in a ruffled tuxedo with a hand-rolled cigarette in hand, he spoke with Captain Kirk-esque delivery against a synthesizer-laden backdrop of the song.

“All in all, Kirk's character is something I am very proud of.” – William Shatner

  1. Bwahahaha!!
That top photo is just crying out for a caption competition!

I like Shatner, despite all the reports of his huge ego and general tool-ness. (I love that Nichelle Nichols once told somebody off for criticising Shatner.'I can say he's a jerk', she said, 'but you can't!')

I got his autograph once at a signing event. He only looked up at all if a woman was in front of him, and even then, his eyes would rarely go farther up than her chest. If the chest was impressive (and scifi fangirls do like their push-u-up corsets), his eyes would follow it as she walked away!
But hell, it was Captain Kirk, so what else would one expect? ;-)

  2. Isn't that top photo fantastic?!?

Perhaps it's because I'm a Star Trek fan but I love Shatner. My favorite is the Next Generation with Patrick Stewart but I love Capt. Kirk as all Trekkies seem to...

You got his autograph??? I'm so jealous. I would have been honored to have him stare at my chest :-D

  3. I grew up watching Star Trek Original Flavour, and had a huuuge crush on Kirk when I was a tweenager. He was the perfect hero! He could swoon any girl, win any battle of wits, and do it all with a wicked twinkle in his eye.

I must admit I stopped watching Star Trek after that series. So though I know who Picard is, I'm not familiar with his work... ;-)

LOL! Sadly, he didn't stare at my chest. Perhaps he was getting tired by then...
He had a real effect on women, I noticed. Even the battle-hardened event staff were positively giddy when he twinkled at them!
