  1. Thumbs up for Thanksgiving menus! And damp leaves and chimney smoke!

Sharing a few favorites from my week:
Getting everybody in the house healthy.
Pumpkin Spice candle from (of all places) Wal-Mart. The others they've got are horrible, but that one's nice.
Gingerbread Latte creamer in my breakfast coffee.
Actual homemade gingerbread with lemon sauce.
William Shatner's turkey-fryer safety video on YouTube.
    Clean cotton sheets.
Buying fresh spices for holiday baking.
Frost on grass, accented with black cows.
Taking my daughter to court to receive her official driver's license. (VA is the only state to still require you to go before a judge and be apprised of your driver responsibilities and the risks/ramifications of drug and alcohol use and delinquent behavior before handing over that utterly-crucial plastic card... to the PARENT, if the new driver is under 18.)
Hearing my 11-year-old playing in his room with his "Viking shield" (a pot lid decorated with colored duct tape) and singing "Hail to the Chief."
    Alahine.

  2. Muse!
I just watched the Shatner video and had to post it above. What a riot! I <3 William Shatner.

Geez, what a strange driver's license process in VA!

Have a great weekend and Thanksgiving next week. :)

  3. My faves this week:

Sosi's Armenian yogurt dip (local thing, so yummy)

Monsieur Balmain (which I just bought for John for his birthday)

Old Codger tawny port (same deal)

Oddly enough, Pink Sugar Sensual (I'm reviewing a bunch of mainstream releases and something about this one makes me happy)

Rewatching High Society w/ Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire

The utter ridiculousness of ANTM All-Stars

"Hark, a Vagrant" literary comics (Check out this comic version of Wuthering Heights: http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=322)

  4. Elisa,
My fixation with MOR Marshmallow is probably quite similar to your Pink Sugar one this week. Also, I had Pink Sugar shower gel and body lotion maybe a year or two ago and used every drop. Loved it. It was a gift from a relative who knew I "loved perfume" and it made me laugh to think a "perfume lover" would want Pink Sugar, but, alas, I loved it despite myself.

Off to find the Wuthering Height's comics now...

  5. I've always thought Pink Sugar was unfairly maligned by perfumistas. It's not on a different planet from, say, Tocade and Un Bois Vanille. The "Sensual" version isn't sensual at all, just a really giddy fruity floral with a surprisingly nice woody vanilla drydown. And a marshmallow note!

  6. Elisa,
So many things are inappropriately maligned by us perfumista types. Almost anything mainstream is suspect of being sub-par unless it proves itself unexpectedly awesome. While it's the opposite with niche. Many start off thinking favorably of a new niche release until it's proved otherwise.
This is a generalization of course!
These past few months I've had some crazy uncharacteristic loves: Donna Karan Cashmere Mist in the edp/Luxe concentration, Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude and now MOR Marshmallow :)

  7. I love loving mainstream things! It always feels like such a miraculous discovery. Falling in love with something niche often makes my heart sink a little (not least because I can't afford it).

  8. AND...with mainstream you know you'll have the chance of finding it for 30-50% off at an online discounter a year or two after it launches. Such a bonus!

But, I should say I love many niche lines, too. Sometimes I realize my comments may seem like I'm in some sort of battle against niche and that's so not true. It's probably 50/50 for me -- half of my faves are niche and half are mainstream.

  9. Muse,
So glad Alahine is on your list.
That stuff still entrances me. Perhaps more and more magical everytime I wear it. Happy you share the love :)

  10. I'm probably 50/50 too in terms of loves, but I tend to buy decants of niche stuff and FB's of mainstream.

  13. Fun post! Mor Marshmallow actually reminds me a little of Chanel Jersey. Have you tried Rumi's Decaf Black Vanilla tea? It's delish.

  14. anotherperfumeblog,

I still haven't tried Jersey! It's coming soon. Wow, wouldn't have imagined it would smell like MOR Marshmallow (in the least!)

And the Rumi's Decaf Black Vanilla Tea sounds wonderful but why is it "Decaf" ??!

    ReplyDelete
  15. anotherperfumeblog,

Oh, wait! The Rumi's is actual tea.
HahHah I'm laughing at myself because I thought you were recommending a perfume and I was confused as to why it would be decaf. I'm totally brain dead. O.O

  16. Ha ha! Yeah, I totally should have clarified that it was tea. My bad. :) Back on the perfume topic, I'll be interested, if you try Jersey, to hear if you get the Mor Marshmallow similarity. I think it's a similar vanilla-with-sweetness thing.
